Feministing
Vanessa co-founded Feministing.com in April 2004 with Jessica Valenti, after which it rapidly grew to be one of the first major feminist blogs online. It has since become the largest feminist community in the world with nearly one million unique readers every month. Feministing has won several awards for its work, including the prestigious 2011 Sidney Hillman Prize in Blog Journalism, the 2009 Blogger's Choice Award for Best Political Blog and the Choice USA Awards. The website has also been featured on and quoted in various mainstream sources, like CNN, Fox News, the New York Times and New York Magazine.
Feministing draws attention to issues that are under-covered in mainstream media, analyzes pop culture through a feminist lens, comments on the portrayal of women in other media, pushes elected officials and media gatekeepers to be more accountable, highlights and amplify social justice activism (of the feminist and many other varieties), and disproves the stereotype of "humorless feminists" on a daily basis.
The Feministing editors launched Feministing Community in 2008, which allows readers to post on the site and start a discussion, further fostering the community of feminist-minded individuals where they can connect, engage and mobilize.
