About Vanessa

Vanessa is a New York City-born and based blogger, strategist, and speaker. She is one of the founders of the award-winning online feminist publication,, which she co-founded with Jessica Valenti in 2004.

Vanessa is also a social entrepreneur, invested in creating new solutions to new problems. She founded Valenti Martin Media, a social change communications consultancy she founded with partner Courtney Martin., and is the co-founder of FRESH, a next generation speakers bureau focused on diversifying the speaking field. She is also a co-founder and organizer of #femfuture, an experimental initiative on building sustainability and impact in online feminism. 

For over a decade, Vanessa has been conspiring and collaborating with dozens of social change organizations across the globe, including TED, UN Women, The Clinton Global Initiative, Population Action International, Girls for Gender Equity, Planned Parenthood Federation of America, and The Gates Foundation. Her work and commentary has appeared in POLITICO, USA Today, The Atlantic, Fast Company, The Houston Chronicle, and others. Vanessa is a Hillman prize winner for Exemplary Reporting that Fosters Social and Economic Justice, and a recipient of the 2016 TED Residency, where she is currently exploring solutions to diversify the public speaking arena, and will give a TED Talk to inspire minds to redesign thought leadership.

Vanessa lives in Queens, NY with her husband, their newborn daughter, and two loving felines, Cracker and Tweet.
